Rupee Loses 5 Paisas against Dollar

The Forex market showed a decline by 5 paisa in the value of Rupee against dollar after touching a two month high rate against the US dollars. On Wednesday, the ruppee closed at a rate of 44.48/49 showing a 5 paisa reduction from the previous 44.30. Sources say, that the situation arised due to the weak areas in the local equity despite of the stable situation of the USD in the international market. They said that the weak local equity coupled with the firm dollar position, burdened the rupee to decline by 5 paisas.

Dealers of Interbank Foreign Exchange also said that this surging in the value of the Rupee was also caused by the increase in the local stocks of the early trade and dollar sales by the exporters.

Furthermore, demand of dollars in the international market, particularly from the oil refinery companies also had an impact on the value of Rupee.

The CEO of Indian Forex Advisors quoted that the decline in the value of Rupee caused due to the Chinese increased interest rates by 25 bps which is for the third time in the ongoing year. This rise in interest rates was taken negatively by the Forex market.

The effect of the Rupee downsizing was clear on the Indian Stock Exchange benchmark, Sensex, which closed at 17.59 points or 0.09 per cent on Wednesday.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) also inducted $2.2 billion in equities which caused the Rupee to fall down.

Meanwhile, the dollar gained upto 0.4 per cent against many European market currencies especially after the declaration of cuttiing credit ratings to Ba2 on Portugal which means that the credit ratings are below the investment level.
